Ceramics Unbound

University ignited my passion for curation. I became fascinated by how artworks can come together to tell a story, whether they share an obvious connection or reveal something unexpected through the relationships between them.

I have worked with Caroline launching Affordable Art Fair’s Ceramics Section. She brings a clear vision, backed by pragmatic judgement about what’s realistic for the setting. Curation, for her, is a series of relationships: artist to work and how the art responds to the space it sits in. Caroline is a true advocate for the ceramics industry in the UK.

What does the artist want to achieve? What is the ambition of the organisation or project? What experience do we want to create for the audience? I listen.

I bring those perspectives together: finding connections, questioning assumptions and shaping a presentation that elevates the work and allows its quality to be recognised.

When I curate within a larger event or organisation, there is another relationship to consider. The individual artist needs to retain their voice and presence, while the collective presentation needs to strengthen the identity and ambition of the project itself.

That balance isn't always simple, and that's what excites me about it.

Through curiosity, listening and collaboration, I help artists and organisations realise creative presentations that allow both the individual and the whole to succeed.
